What Services Are Like

Why do we …

… Blow Shofars? “…you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the Lord your God,…” (Numbers 10:8-10)

… clap our hands & shout aloud during worship? “O clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy.” (Psalms 47:1)

… pray audibly, lift up our hands in worship? “Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to You for help. When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary.” (Ps 28:2)

… dance, play music, praise aloud during worship? “Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!” .” (Psalms 150:4-6)

… sing in the Sprit? “I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.” (1 Corinthians 14:15)

… speaking in tongues with interpretation in our services? “If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God. (1 Corinthians 14:27-28)

… have public prophetic words spoken during our services? “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. (1 Corinthians 14:29)

… lay hands of people? “they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:18; Acts 28:8; 2 Tim. 1:6)

… pray for the sick? “and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.” James 5:15)

… give public altar calls of commitment and/or dedication? “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

… see people sometimes visibly touched by the Spirit? “…the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.” (2 Chron. 5:14; Matt. 28:14; John 18:6; Acts 9:4)

… celebrate the Feasts of the Old Testament?

“The LORD spoke again to Moses, saying, … “The LORD’S appointed times which you shall proclaim … My appointed times are these: ” (Leviticus 23:1-44)
